I made a challenge to myself to take in more art this year. The challenge was to read 24 books, watch 5 scripted series, and 36 movies by the end of the year. And for plays, whatever I watched would be considered bonus. I'm happy to say that I hit the series and movie goal, but just fell short of the books. It gives me a goal to shoot for in the next year.
Of the movies that I watched the year, the ones that stood out to me were:
King Richard
Respect
The Eyes of Tammy Faye
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom
Together Together
Pig
Hustle
Nope
Martel the Shell w/Shoes On
The Woman King
Honk for Jesus, Save Your Soul
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Each movie made me think about some aspect of writing and storytelling and it was a delight watching so many compelling films this year. This may not be a "best of" list, but it's definitely full of films that caught me by surprise, made me think, reflected some part of my story, and allowed me to escape into another world for a couple of hours. There was even a special at Alamo where they had a day of $5 films and I watched three - I feel like I ain't done that since college! I promptly came home and went to bed right after... lol!
Oh and on the play side - Fat Ham was simply fantastic! I believe it's on Broadway now, so if you're able - go get your ticket and see it!
And... what's summetime if not hanging out with friends?? I'm so glad for the shared memories, stories, laughter, experiences, and fun within these photos. I'm glad I have such wonderful friends that whether it's eating out, walking around a park, celebrating a birthday, sitting around their kitchen table, or hosting them, it's always sure to be a good time. This is what community looks like - and I'm so grateful for mine!
